Currently, I'm a web developer (engineer, architect, whatever name is trendy) at a media company in Las Vegas. I use Python for day-to-day development, but can find my way through other languages with a little studying. Programming is my current focus, though I've had my hand at data center type work. I'm a big advocate of virtualization technologies on Linux, primarily KVM (Kernel Virtual Machine).
My favored web development methodology is using a pure WSGI stack. I've worked with Django for the past couple years, but I find myself missing the plugability of WSGI-compliant apps. I've been experimenting with various other packages lately including Pylons, Werkzeug and SQLAlchemy. My technical blog, thesigb.com is currently built on Google App Engine using packages from Werkzeug and my own hand-crafted code.
I consider myself quite the avid Linux nut. My current distro of choice is Ubuntu -- sure others may be sleeker, faster, whatever, but I want something that just installs and works out of the box. It's currently powering both my work and personal laptops, my home server, media center, and a few other machines I use daily.
If you couldn't tell yet, I'm passionate about open source software. Over the past few years, I've become involved in a few open source communities and have recently started finding ways to give back. I try to avoid using closed source software when there are sufficient open source alternatives. I'd rather support the grassroots efforts that go into open source software.
